WHY THE FUSE BOARD MATTERS
Your consumer unit distributes electricity and protects the circuits around your property. Adding generation, storage or higher-demand equipment means checking that the whole installation is suitable.
We assess circuit space, protective devices, wiring, earthing and incoming supply capacity before recommending an upgrade. Where appropriate, VoltSmart adds integrated voltage optimisation alongside the protection specified for your installation.
A replacement is not automatically necessary. If your existing board is suitable, we will explain that too. A new fuse board does not increase your incoming supply capacity or remove the need for any required network approval.
MORE THAN A STANDARD REPLACEMENT
An integrated auto-transformer allows the installer to configure voltage reduction where appropriate. This may reduce consumption in appliances that respond to lower voltage; results depend on supply conditions and appliance mix.
Surge protective devices help limit transient overvoltages that can damage electrical equipment. We confirm the protection included in your selected board and installation.
An RCBO configuration combines overcurrent and residual-current protection for individual circuits. This can help limit a fault's disruption to the affected circuit rather than a group of circuits.
The range offers fire-safety features, with arc-fault detection available in selected configurations. Your quotation will identify the devices included; these features do not eliminate all electrical fire risks.
We check the selected board's ratings, protection and connection arrangements against your solar, battery, heat pump or EV design. Compatibility must be confirmed for the complete system.
Where practical, we allow for future circuits and upgrades when specifying the board. Installation includes testing, circuit identification and the relevant certification and notifications.
THE DIFFERENCE, EXPLAINED
A modern standard consumer unit can already provide excellent protection and support renewable installations. VoltSmart's principal additional feature is integrated voltage optimisation—not an exclusive ability to connect renewables.
