Understand your options

What is the Warm Homes Loan Scheme?

WHLS is a government-backed lending scheme designed to help with the upfront cost of eligible home energy upgrades. The money is borrowed from a participating lender and must be repaid. It is not a grant or a promise of free installation.

The government supports the cost of lending. Your actual rate, repayment term, monthly payment and total amount repayable depend on the lender and product offered. We will explain the available terms before you decide.

Solar panels

Generate electricity from daylight with a system designed around your roof, usage and property.

Explore solar panels →

Battery storage

Store electricity for use later. Suitability and savings depend on your usage, tariff and system design.

Explore battery storage →

Heat pumps

Explore eligible low-carbon heating, with a survey to assess the right system for your home.

Who can explore the scheme?

The scheme is not restricted to households receiving benefits. Working households who are outside grant eligibility can explore it too, subject to the same lender checks.

Check grants before borrowing.

If you may qualify for grant support, explore it first. Combining support depends on the relevant scheme rules. We can help you identify the right questions to ask before committing to finance.

HEAT PUMP SUPPORT · ENGLAND AND WALES

Thinking about a heat pump?

£7,500 BUS grant

For eligible air-to-water or ground source heat pump installations under the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.

£9,000 for qualifying homes

A temporary uplift for eligible homes heated by oil or LPG that have no mains gas connection. Available until 31 March 2027, subject to scheme conditions.

BUS eligibility is not based on receiving benefits. Property, existing heating and installation requirements apply. This is heat-pump support, not a grant for solar panels or batteries.

Explore grants alongside finance

The government’s WHLS launch factsheet says loans may be combined with BUS grants. Before you commit, we will confirm the permitted funding arrangement with the provider, including which costs can be financed after any grant. Full cost coverage is not guaranteed.

Any financed amount is repayable, with interest where applicable. Your quotation and finance offer will show the grant, any deposit, borrowing, repayments and total amount payable.

Questions homeowners ask

Is WHLS available now?

The national scheme has launched. Availability varies by participating lender, product and distribution channel. We will confirm whether a WHLS product is available through WorkWork for your proposed installation before an application proceeds.

Does the government approve my loan?

No. You apply to a lender, directly or through an eligible finance channel. The lender assesses the application and sets the terms.

Is finance guaranteed to cover my energy savings?

No. Savings depend on your home, electricity use, tariffs and system performance. Loan repayments remain payable regardless of the savings achieved. We will provide property-specific estimates rather than guarantee a return.

Can I apply as a tenant or landlord?

The applicant must own the property. A tenant should speak to their landlord. Landlords should check product availability and property eligibility with the lender.

Are all WorkWork products eligible?

No. WHLS supports specified technologies and installation conditions. Do not assume that insulation, EV charging or every heating-and-cooling product qualifies. We will check the intended improvement against current scheme and lender requirements.

How does WorkWork arrange finance?

We use Stax, the finance platform from Shermin Finance, with participating lenders. A lender’s participation in WHLS does not automatically mean every product on our panel is WHLS-funded. Your finance documentation will identify the product offered.
